The average household will dispose of 3 tons of waste every year of which a large proportion will be contaminated plastic.

The waste will eventually be collected and most of it will be disposed of on a landfill site. Landfill sites are an unfortunate fact of life within our society, not only are they unsightly but they’re also a health hazard contaminated plastic being one of the more serious problems. The recycling waste of any kind is always good news but plastic waste is different.

Disposing of contaminated plastic waste is almost impossible because it is a non biodegradable compound which makes it a major problem for local authorities and business’s alike not just from an environmental and health point of view but a financial as well. So how do we tackle the problem.

Recycling

Intruplas was established some years ago with the aid of European Landfill Tax funding by like minded people who had a common interest in environmental issues and the recycling of waste. The sole objective was to develop the technology needed to treat and recycle contaminated plastic waste and produce materials and products that will benefit society in general and address the problem of plastic waste disposal.

Our development has been excellent leading to several high profile awards for our efforts. Our continuous research and development means we can enter other areas of waste recycling.

Intruplas Ltd has now been acquired by Lynwood Products Ltd, a leading UK manufacturer of decorating products and high volume plasticwares based in Halifax.

Commenting on the acquisition, Howard Waghorn, Lynwood managing director said “The addition of the Intruplas operation to our existing plastics recycling business will create one of the largest and best equipped recycling and manufacturing operations in the UK. We will be able to recycle 3,000 tons of waste material each year, not only producing useful products but saving over 4,000 tons of C02 emissions as well”

The enlarged business now employs 75 people on it’s 160,000 sq foot site and will enable Lynwood to continue to capitalise on the increasing need to recycle waste materials.

The new business unit was formally opened on 5 January 2007 by Linda Riordan MP, who expressed her delight at the success of the Lynwood business and the prospect of more jobs being brought to Halifax.
